  1. I agree with numebr1sitevinifan. It's guys like him that ensure the go forward ball in the game. He is a good player and like any loose forward should do, he is always one of the first to the breakdowns. He may not be as flashy as the guys in the backline, but he is very effective and steady.

  2. ahaha rueben thorne.. umm well everyone seems to think he has a great workrate blah blah blah.. yet Henry said tha only reason he was chosen was that because of what he brings to the team off-field leadership.. he gets the name mr invisible because  in big games, well in most games, he seems to pull on his invisible cape n seems to never be around the ball.. to those saying that he does all tha donkey work thats to some extent true but how much work is there to be done wen u got ritchie n rodney doin tha same work.. are u sayin that rueben thorne gets to tha breakdown  faster than ritchie or rodney... times have change since tha blindside flanker secured tha ball at broken play look at jerry collins n sione lauki..

  3. Rueben Thorne  is no flashy, try scoring speedster, but his  versatility and work rate  is exactly what Rugby is about. The reason you don`t see him is because he`s always in the tight stuff, grafting for the ball. Those flash guys out the back ,couldn`t show their wares ,if it wasn`t for the "invisible " blokes like Rueben.

He`s great in the lineout,a tough  scrummager, and I would bet ,there are very few , that make as many tackles as him in ,any game.

  4. Rueben Thorne is what you would call a good old fashioned Blindside Flanker . Head down Backside up in the thick of the hard yakka .. Basically he is the player who does the donkey work that you don't see and is responsible for getting the ball back from the tight stuff so the flashy runners get quality ball to do their stuff with .. You need a player like Rueben in any top side  ..He is the glue that binds the show together .. Rarely makes mistakes and is excellent as a cover defender and defender on the blindsude in close .. You  don't see him missing many tackles .. He is also above average as a lineout option , often calling the lineouts and has leadership qualities with his no nonsence do the business style ..

Thorne will be playing in his 3rd World Cup .. That tells you something .. You don't get selected over a long period of time by 3 or 4 different Coaches and Selectors if you have limited ability ..

Thorne has also Captained the AllBlacks in some 23 or 24 tests and this includes a stint as World Cup Captain in 2003 ..Racked up 48 Tests for the AllBlacks and if you are no good then you don't end up playing that many either .. He has one of the best win -- loss ratios of any AllBlack Captains ..

Good solid no frills rugby player , You usually can rely on him to get the job done with little fuss ..
