  1. The Old Testament:  Hebrew

The New Testament:  Greek (Koine Greek, to be specific).

  2. Hebrew for the old testament

    Greek for the new testament

King James had it trnslated in the 1600

the King James version is the closet to the original text KJV

  3. KJV is a 7th generation translation which started with the Latin Vulgate and not with Greek or Hebrew.  In 1611 it was the best availabe.

All KJV translators were Church of England clerics, the poetry in Psalms and other place was tweaked up by William Shakespeare.  Translation done between 1604 and 1611.

NIV was translated directly from the best and oldest Greek and Hebrew manuscrips we have available today.  Greek for the New Testament and Hebrew for Old Testament.  The NIV team used Greek and Hebrew manuscripts which were more than 1,000 years older than what the KJV translators had available to them.

Over 100 scholars did the work from about 1968 til 1980.  Those 100 scholars came from about 40 different denominations to prevent sectarian bias.

ESV and NASB have a similar background to as the NIV, meaning they used the oldest manuscripts, except they did not start from scratch they used the older translations as a starting point.

ESV and NASB had a large committee with at least 40 denominations represented like the NIV.  ESV was completed in late 2001 and was first printed in 2002.

NASB was first completed in 1971 with the 2nd version completed about 1995.

Edit:  No Roman Catholic wrote any part of the original Bible.  The Bible was written by Holy Men who were all Jewish, except perhaps for Dr. Luke, the beloved physician who might have been Greek.  Dr. Luke wrote the books of Luke and Acts.

Prior to the 20th century Roman Catholics murdered people for the crime of translating the Bbile into the language of the common man.

Such as William Tyndale who was burned at the stake for the crime of translating the Bible into English.  90% of Willian Tyndale's words made it into the KJV.

Pope Leo X, condemed Martin Luther to death for translating the Bible into German.  However Luther was more popular than the Pope who was unable to carry out that evil plot.

  4. I asked this question and got a ouple good answers.

The Torah is the oldest Bible composed of the first five books or the books of Moses.

The rest of the Old Testament was wrote in Hebrew or Aramaic along with the Torah.

The New Testament was in Greek as it was the "English" of those times in that area.

The first bible all together, I believe, was called the Codex Cinaiticus. This is where we get the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The whole thing was translated into the Latin Vulgate.

Then it was translated into the King James Version.

That is what I know and I hope it helps.

  5. The Bible was written by the Catholic Church fron the Oral Tradition. It means the information gathered from what the people, the Apostles who lived with Jesus told. It happened for many years, from generation to generation, that`s why the Tradition is so important. Then the Bible ws written, so the Bible is the Written Tradition , put in a book, The Bible. The Catholic Church joined the Inspired Books.

  6. Are you serious - check into a search engine for crying out loud.......
