  1. contact several martial arts schools in the area that compete. They will know where and when tournaments are held.  you may also find a few listed on the Tiger Claw web site. Problem with tournaments is many don't advertise the tournaments on a big scale. So if you are not in the loop you can easily not even know that there is one near you.

    Best of Luck!

  2. look up "martial arts tournaments Alabama" and find out!

  3. http://www.barbarianfightclub.com/index.... <---Cage events in your area.  There's a "fighters" tab at top of the main page just aim your cursor over that and click on "Wanna Fight?" link.  It took me a minute, but finally found one. For future reference type "Alabama Mixed Martial Arts Event Promoter" with out the quotation marks into Google's search engine ( Sorry Yahoo, but you didn't have what I was looking for ) and you'll be able to research MMA events in your area in-depth.

If the promoter isn't holding events in Alabama at the present time contact him or a representing agent of his company and ask them when they'll be coming back your way.  Many MMA amateur event promoters will often hold such events in regional areas, but will often do repeat visits to your area, depending on the sport's popularity in your area and the size of the crowds drawn there.  It never hurts to ask.  This promoter may even be able to give you a local promoter's contact info if there's another promoter in your area.

Promoters will also reimberse you for gas costs as to their own "calculations" if you have to travel further than 150 miles or better and the reimbersment mileage may be further in distance depending on the promoter's own policy.

As far as the registration form goes "honesty" is the best policy for any fighter.  All styles including "Street Fighting" are welcome at these events.  If you've never had any MMA cage experience then just put "debut" in the MMA Record Field and if you're an "independent fighter" ( without a school or a coach ) then state so on the registration form in the appropriate fields.  As far as years of training goes on these types of forms if you're a street fighter take a good educated guess as to how long you would consider your self experienced and put that amount of time in the "years of training" field.  In the School/Trainer name field put "self" or the name of a good cornerman or cornerwoman that you think could hold your towel and jell your face before the fight and between rounds will work as well.  MMA glove sizes and all that can be determined at the waiver signing and rules briefing so I don't know why Alabama has that c**p on there.  Then of course your final comments in the "other competitive experience" field, make it good maybe something like "Kicking a** and I'm d**n good at it too!!"

It's all about how you package and present your self. Promoters want to know that you're going to give the crowd a good show while in that cage.

Hope that helps Paula ...Good Luck!!
