Can someone please tell me why an american has so much trouble staying in Australia?

I love it hear and want to stay but the gov. is making it hard. Now on the other hand people fromother nations get a free pass???? Im lost and need advise. Thanks

What exactly do you mean by free pass?

If you're talking about refugees, it's because their homes are destroyed and have nowhere else to go.

You could stay under our skilled migrants program, so if you want to stay you could skill yourself up! Or marry one of the locals.

If it were up to me, anyone from any country could stay. But I think you should try every possibility, and you might get lucky!

i am from another country. i have not got a free pass. plus i am finding it hard to stay in australia cuz of the goverment as well. now i am try to get a other visa for tempary stay. if you speak english you dont get in but if you dont speak english your are free to come in. its just p**s me off cuz those kind of people you dont speak english can stay. but us you can speak english cant stay. you should try going for another visa for tempary stay. its called a 457 visa

It has nothing to do with being American, like everyone else you must go through the proper channels, no one gets a free pass.

Our government usually reciprocates the same conditions your government puts on us when we go to your country.  Remember that when you wonder why you get such  poor deal this side.  One thing we don't do, thankfully,  is make working here a green card lottery.  If you do a job Australia needs then you get an easy ticket in.  If you don't then you find it harder.    The only nation that gets a free pass is New Zealand.  They have a totally free trade market with us and travel is easier.  Consider it much like the relationship the US has with Canada.  Everyone else has to follow the queue just like you.

You should get yourself an immigation consultant [check the phone book]. Trying to deal with the Department of immigration without help will soon have you giving up in frustration since they don't appear interested in helping.

What other nationalities do you reckon get a "free pass"? Refugees?  Asylum seekers?  USA is a developed country, maybe others have a more valid reason for getting their visa/citizenship - whatever - fast tracked,

The first answer, is somewhat correct! But our G is making it harder for people to come in now and stay, for many reasons.

My advice for ya is to find a good Aussie woman and marry her!

Then you can call Australia home!!
