Question:

Can someone please tell me why certain, or all, calibres of rifles have a brand name after them?

ok, i don't know if what i'm asking makes sense, but i'll show you what i mean. When looking at rifles and stuff in magazines and so on it might have that a certain rifle is available in .204 ruger or .223Rem or .308Win or something like that. I just wanna know what the little end bit (eg. Ruger, Rem, Win) means. Not that it stands for Remington or Winchester or anything cause i know that, but why it is there and what it means about the calibre of rifle. Even with .22WMR and .17HMR; why are they Winchester and Hornady Magnum Rimfire and not just Magnum Rimfire. I don't get it. Please enlighten me.

  1. When you see the brand name after the calibre marking it just certifies that that particular calibre is owned and origionaly produced by that manufacturer. For example 223 Rem is a Remington calibre and 243 Win is a Winchester calibre basicly the individual owns the rights for that calibre.
