Question:

Can someone really be a witch/wiccan and still claim to be Christian?

I answered a question last night from a poster (probably a teenager) who claimed that they were Christian but also a practicing wiccan. She went on in great length how she doesn't "hex" people and what was so wrong with that??

I personally believe that the two beliefs are not compatible - what I received was an extremely rude e-mail from this individual who then blocked me!

A little overly sensitive - but I would like to hear from other wiccans/witches - Is it possible? Or was this a silly little teenage Christian playing make believe games?

  1. No. You are either one or the other. There is nothing in common between the two.

  2. Too bad some people can't handle the truth.  I personally do not think it is possible to be both.  I agree you is or you isn't.

  3. Oil and water don't mix. How could these two very opposite things do any differently?

You're right: it probably was a teenager. I seem to be running into that alot in my travels.

  4. No.

  5. no way

  6. Fundamental belief in christianity, that Jesus was divine, died and was reborn.

Fundamental belief in wicca, that God dies and is reborn in nature.

Ok so Christian Wiccans simply claim that God incarnated as Jesus.  Not too terribly far off since we all believe that the Gods incarnate yes?

    Wiccan belief in Goddess, well...

Christians, when push comes to shove will say "God" has no gender, and so could be equally considered Goddess...

Full Moon celebrations, Sabbats, and Sunday service...  I could see a really busy Samhain Sunday Full moon for a christian witch but...  No reason why they couldnt have it.

Yes there is a reprimand in the bible against worshiping a Goddess as Queen of Heaven, however with the other tongue they say that it was the best time their people ever had.

Final thoughts, like most christians, wiccan christians choose which parts of the bible and which stories of wicca they wish to use.  It is a synthesis but shouldnt have any problem.

However most christian wiccans finally pic one or the other over time.  lol and then spend several years arguing against the other!  lmao

  7. There is an Indian saying:

The person with one foot in a different canoe, will drown.

Jesus said something about two masters as well.

    So, they are incompatible walks.

    God love you.

  8. its not possible, although id like to see it happen, i really do. btw she wasn't a silly teen playing games i think she was confused, she was probably stuck in between the choice of Wicca or Christianity. i used to be there, and trust me its very very hard if Christianity was the religion you've been born into. unfortunately i don't think its ever gonna happen that these two religions will find a healthy middle, Christianity didn't with every other religion, why would this be any different?

this gets really stressful and depressing to think about, you have to choose with soothing you love or something you grew up with.

but yeah...she was a little too sensitive

    hope i helped

  9. Aaaah  Gotta love those big mouth emailers who say what THEY want to say, then block you from replying....  yeah  they are so much FUN aren't they?  (freakin' cowards)

Anyway to answer your question in a direct manner:

In My Opinion, NO, a Christian can NOT also be a Wiccan or a Pagan.  End of story.

A PAGAN may incorporate some Christian aspects into their PAGAN practice, but they are still PAGANS incorporating some christian aspects into their belief system.

A Christian who believes in the Bible, in Jesus as the Savior & the literal son of God, and puts no other gods before Him.... cannot practice Wicca.

Added:  although some here are making the distinction between "witchcraft" and "wicca" (and that's OK), witchcraft and all manner of spells, magic or seeking "personal power" by way of practicing anything like that- is AGAINST Christian dogma and the bible.

So they STILL can't be "Christian" and dabbling around with Witchcraft or magic. It is specifically forbidden.

  10. No, the two are mutually exclusive.

  11. Well the Bible says "Abstain from all appearances of evil" (I Thessalonians 5:22). a witch (or Wicca, I still don't see the difference) has an appearance of evil, so I would assume that it isn't okay for us to deal with those kinds of things. Hope I helped.

  12. that is not possible, practicing that stuff, is Satan worship and people who believe in god, don't do that. i;m a christian and it extremely against my belief to practice witch craft. if they truy believe in wiccan and stuff like that and they say there christians, there just lying.

  13. I believe a witch can also be a Christian. If you believe that Christ was Gods son and died for our sins.. Than you are a Christian. You might have the power of wisdom and faith in your self to believe that you are a witch and can change fate. SO yes i believe you can be both

  14. There is a growing Christo-Pagan movement. Despite this movement being blasted by both Christians and Pagans alike, it's becoming increasingly popular. There really are people who claim to practice Christianity and witchcraft simultaneously.

  15. To be christian is not simply a religion, it is a lifestyle, and a personal salvation. In order to be truly christain you must have god living inside you. that means you have to have accepted Jesus and ask God to be the leader in your life. Usually if a person has god in their hearts truly it makes them want to change, It makes them want to be as close to god as possible, because god wants that for them. Ask that person to explain what being saved means. What is the only way to get into heaven, because you can't just by being a good person, no one is perfect and that's what it takes to get into heaven because god is perfect. God relized this, and loved us enough to sent his one and only son, jesus christ, who was perfect and who never committed a sin in his life, to get beaten with whips that had broken shards of glass, ridiculed, spit on, had his beared ripped out of his face, and nailed to the cross and died, so that we could get into heaven. all we have to do is tell god that you beleive this happened and ask god into your life and you are saved. You have a place in heaven. I'm not saying the person who practices wicca hasn't done this, I'm just saying it isn't likely. When god is truly in your life you want to be close to god and you trust him with everything. God was powerful create the universe  and holds it in his hand, and you don't need anything else to to protect or aid you, especially if the thing helping you is saitan, who just wants you to suffer and burn in h**l because he has to. Wicca is of saitan.

  16. Eh, I dont think its possible, but i might be wrong

  17. No...God tells us in His word that you can't have two masters....you will hate one and love the other.

Witchcraft is a sin....and those that "practice" sin will not enter the kingdom of heaven

  18. A person can claim whatever he or she wants, but witchcraft is strictly prohibited in Christianity. Good spells, bad spells, red spells, blue spells; it doesn't matter. It's still witchcraft, and it's still prohibited.

  19. Why would you go to "wannabe witches" and wiccans for your answer????

There is no such thing as a person who dabbles in the occult who is a true believer. The one is completely incompatible with the other.

Whoever told you they are BOTH, does NOT know what a christian IS , nor do they know what the Bible teaches about staying away from all that is occult.

You can say you are a frito...but if the scripture doesn't back you up, you are living in la la land.

  20. It's not possible. The beliefs are totally incompatible.

For one thing, Wicca is polytheistic. Christianity is monotheistic.

Wicca believes in the worship of a Goddess alongside of a God. Christianity teaches one God alone - and that God does NOT accept other gods being worshipped along side him.

I'll copy/paste from this webpage: http://wicca.timerift.net/christianwicca... things other than theology which contradict between Christianity and Wicca.

"Even if you can somehow justify multiple gods in a Christian context, there is a lot more to both religions than just the issue of deities.

Satan - Satan has no place in Wicca. Satan is an embodiment of evil, and supernatural powers within a Wiccan content are intimately a part of nature. The acknowledgment of Satan within a Wiccan context would imply that some part of nature is inherently evil, which Wiccans deny.

Jesus as Savior - Christians believe that Jesus is necessary for salvation because we are, by our nature, tainted creatures, either because we are corporeal or because of Original Sin (or both), depending on your denomination. Wicca does not accept that we can be tainted because of our mere existence. Any taint that we might bear comes from our own choice of actions, not our nature.

Original Sin - Wicca does not believe that one is held accountable for another's transgressions. Original Sin transmits the guilt of Eve to all of her descendants.

h**l for unbelievers - Wicca's tolerance for other religions makes this a nonsensical concept. And if you don't believe nonbelievers are going to h**l, what exactly is Jesus saving you from?

Evangelizing - One of the duties of Christians is to "spread the Good Word". It's not only a long standing practice - it's Biblical. That doesn't mean force beliefs upon others, but it does mean actively preaching and/or seeking out potential converts, both of which are anathema to Wicca."

In order for a person to both be Christian and Wiccan, they would have to pick an choose different aspects of each religion, essentially destroying the practices of both religions in the process. If you feel that a combination of Christianity and Wicca is right for you, in your path, by all means, do it. But you shouldn't claim to be one or the other, by calling yourself Christian, Wiccan, Christo-Wiccan, or any other combination of the word. It's an insult to practitioners of both religions.

HOWEVER: You should also know that being a witch and being a Wiccan are not the same thing. Witchcraft is the practice of magic, not all Wiccans practice magic. Witches come from all sorts of religions. They can be Hindu, Christian, Wiccan, or Atheist. They can be ANY religion. So a witch isn't a Wiccan, and a Wiccan isn't a witch, but they CAN be both. Therefor, if a person claims to be a Christian witch, it is perfectly possible.  (http://wicca.timerift.net/witch.shtml )

  21. religion is for ******* retarded people who want someone to blame for all the **** that is going wrong in the world.

  22. Well not logically, since Wiccans have their own deity.
