A shakespear rod and reel are the best in my opinion. There around forty dollars and are short so they come in handy when your around bushes and branches. I got mine at walmart but you could also get them at gander mountain, bass pro shops and d**k&#039;s sporting goods. I would also recomend 6 pound test spider wire as fishing line and a small white jig as a lure has always worked good for me for whitebass and small mouth.

I&#039;ve heard the ultra light Ugly Stik&#039;s are great,even from people who bash the larger sized Ugly Stiks.I&#039;d start my search there if I were you.

I have a medium action Ugly Stick that I absolutely love.Can&#039;t beat the price in my opinion.

Im not sure on the cost but Shakesphere reels are my personal favorite. From all ive used it is by far the smoothest out there, but its your choice of course. When you go shopping for your reel put the tip of the rod (the smallest part) on one of your friends throut and tell them to talk. meanwhile you hold the grip of the rod as if you where fishing. If you can feel the vibration  all the way through the rod its probly a good one.
