Can someone recommend a teacher book?

I will start STUDENT TEACHING in September and I need book recommendations. I was thinking of creative ideas for 1st grade teachers or lesson plan ideas. I just need something to help me with everyday planning. Websites are also helpful.

You absolutely MUST get Harry Wong's "The First Days of School".

It is not necessarily a tool for day-to-day planning, but it will certainly give you a better understanding of how to start off the year strong.  It's a great book for classroom management.  Every teacher I know owns a copy!  If you start off with strong management, the planning and implementing of plans becomes so much easier and more enjoyable!

As far as planning goes, start off by looking at your state standards.  You have to know what you will be teaching before you can even begin to wonder how you should teach it.  Look at the standards and then google the topics.  It works :)  Plus, you're student teaching which means you will have a pro there to help and guide you!

I just finished reading a book called "Teach to Reach" by Craig Mitchell.  It is a really good book with 300+ strategies/tips/hints for teachers.  Although it does not have lesson plan ideas, it gives you many many ideas to incorporate into every area of your classroom (each area has its own chapter)- i.e. starting the school year, delivering a successful lesson, communicating with parents, etc.

I learned a lot from it!  I would definitely recommend it to everyone, whether they are a first year teacher or a tenured teacher!

I always like "Mailbox" for thematic ideas, especially back to school.
