  7. Try She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb or The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. Those are 2 of my favorites :)

  8. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

  9. Coraline is a 'book for all ages' Neil Gaiman wrote, and I found it in the children's section of my library, and read it realizing that Gaiman had scared me with that little book... it's an amazingly refreshing scary story.

    Back to business:

I think I'd recommend you look at books yourself by these popular authors by following the (safe) links below:

http://www.scottwesterfeld.com After a slow start, I thought Uglies was really good. The Midnighters series Westerfeld wrote is also good; a bit more 'sci-fi,' but still with high school kids all figuring out how to get by and falling in love between very interesting adventures.

You will have to click on 'Proceed to site' after you follow this link, then follow links to the Maximum Ride series. Look at the video if you like. Just read about the books a bit. I liked the second one.

As for Neil Gaiman, his books Stardust and Neverwhere (Stardust not so scary, Neverwhere gets pretty darn dark in places) are also good.

http://www.neilgaiman.com He has written lots of books, so you'll see lots at his site. Plus he'll read to you.

If you are ready for a different kind of book than teen books--

Suggest, if you haven't yet, that you read some Jane Austen, like Pride and Prejudice; some Kurt Vonnegut if you like satire and compassion mixed together, like in Slaughterhouse Five; some Louisa May Alcott (her series beginning with Little Women is good, actually); some Frank McCourt for autobiographical work, though I liked Teacher Man the best, even counting his Pulitzer winner, Angela's Ashes...

You'll get many titles. Best of luck finding books you like.

ADD: The Left Behind books are for reading when you're familiar with the Bible, just in case you didn't know and want to...

  10. "The Diary of a Young Girl" by Anne Frank is a classic.

  16. Its hard to recommend a book blindly to someone.  But!!  Becuase I want to spread intellectual reading I'm gonna suggest Animal Farm by George Orwell.  Its a good story and an enormously relevant allegory.  Read then research it though otherwise you'll be distracted the whole time.
