  1. It depends on your price range. All camcorders have problems with darkness, but some are better than others.

    - miniDV is still considered the best quality by many in the consumer camcorder category for price to quality ratio.

    - Hard drive is a good option, as it is small and has a large storage capacity. These can come in very good quality, but the price is generally high.

    - SD camcorders - camcorders that record to flash are the newest breed for the market, and have their up and downs. It largely depends on the camcorder you get - there are HD models that range from $150 all the way to $1000. These camcorders have the advantage of being very small and light.

I suggest searching for videos on Vimeo to see the quality they make before choosing.

  2. My girlfriend got me the JVC gr-da30u and i am very happy with it. this is older technology which takes the DV tapes but its a very image that it produces. it also has a pretty powerful zoom which is a 30x optical  to a 800x digital which is powerful. this seems OK in low light as well but not in pitch black. you can get a good deal on this online.
