So me and my friend were in a church parking lot and we wanted to see who had better acceleration so we did a little race (very little like 50ft) and my friend spinned his tires and it was loud (then I won yeah!!) but we stopped after and talked a little and a guy ran up and was standing behind our cars and it was like 10:00pm so it was kind of weird and then he said just getting license plate numbers and ran off before we could talk to him can he turn in those numbers to the police and get us in trouble?

  1. If you are in Australia, then yes. There is a number you can call to report  that kind of thing.

  2. Heres how it would work:

The witness would submit a police report to his local PD.  The PD would run the plate and get in your info.  They will then issue you a "Notice to Appear [to court]".

A trial will be arraigned, the witness will give his side, you will give yours.  And worse case senerio is you are found guilty and fined $50 or so lol.

Don't sweat it.  I doubt he'll report you, and even if he does, the punishment is only a fine.

  3. No lol unless you are caught in the act you are fine, the police will not go out of their way to come to your house or track you down for something so dumb.Ok I meant to say in America no, but I see that Australia is not the same lol.

  4. If its in australia      YES as they now have what they call dob in a hoon law

  5. Sure! Anyone has the ability to report someone. Its up to the local police to follow up on it.

    1. You can get (if your address is current) a "notice to appear" in court in the mail if the person went through with it. They will have to show up (and they may not want to for loss of pay, ID themselves, etc.) in court as well. Do you know how was the plate info taken? Was it with a cell, camera or written? Photo/Video evidence (Date/Time stamp) of the plates in court will put your vehicle at the scene. Since it's 10:00 PM I assume it was dark so you and the other driver are not easily seen unless you got out of the car.

    2. The church can be classed as private property so you can get it also for trespassing.

    3. Make sure your Insurance is current, sticker is good, license is right and past local tickets are paid in case you get called.

  6. Yes, why do you think we have them.

  7. If someone wished to file a complaint, the Officer could issue a ticket, and mark down the witness on the citation.  This person would have to appear in court.  If it was just a report of vehicles racing, your license plate number would be passed around, and you would become very popular.

  8. Sure.

  9. Yes, they can follow it up and they will give you the option of paying the fine, or you can contest it in court. Better off paying the fine otherwise you'll be up for court fees if you lose.

Good you won though, well done...
