First: WHAT would help "erase" things--the pursuit of truth; or the truth itself? Fix that sentence. Or do you mean "Courbet believed, which (in and of itself) would help erase...."?

Grammar and syntax do count when you are trying to make someone understand something. Since I don't even understand who Courbet was, I don't know which of those ways to take your statement.

Clean it up.

To rewrite it, you need to figure out what the realist mission is in more detail and try to look up how to explain social contradictions in a different way. What does he mean by imbalances? Is he talking about people who are criminals or people who don't follow laws? Find out, then you can explain the mission was to help rid the world of people like that.

It's obviously a mission for a better world, but in what way, I can't tell by reading that sentence.
