I live with someone who has a Netgear wireless router (similar to one I used to own), but also has something else connected to the router. I think it's just something that allows him to plus more stuff into the router. Is there anyway that someone can have a router, and use it (and use the internet) without it being hooked up to the modem?

  1. You could set up a wireless network but without a modem you wont be able to access the internet.

  2. ALL DSL routers have a modem built in, which replaces the existing modem. It still needs the subscribed dsl line. Cable services MUST have the cable modem, and a router with lan connection for the modem.

  3. No, a router with no modem will not give you internet.
