Can someone still hold a stable relationship and still work in a program like the CIA, FBI, U.S marshalls, NSA, etc? Does someone in these programs travel a lot? Does their work interfere with holding a stable family?

I'm not trying to be rude, I just know someone who might join one of these programs, and says that he'll be gone.. and is afraid of losing his gf. he's also not sure of which program he's joining.

  1. Yes, it is possible.  There are adjustments for everyone in any job.

  2. Yes it is possible to work in a lot of these fields and still be able to have a family life, people just have to make allowances for it to happen.

Of course there are some jobs where they would have a difficult time having a family.  I wouldn't recommend working for the U.S. Air Marshals if a person wants to have a family, since they are in the air a lot and I mean a lot.  They travel around a lot of the time, to the point that they are often sick from flying.

But most of the jobs a person can have a family life and still work in a lot of these fields as well and it shouldn't be a problem.

As with any job, there will always be situations where the person may have to work over time, and that can keep them away from the family.  Every job has advantages as well as disadvantages to them.  But a government job is usually very stable and that is a plus in this day and age when things are not always so stable in the normal world.

I hope that this helps answer your question.  Tell your friend to ask a lot of questions before he's hired with any agency, ask if he's going to have to travel a lot if any.  It should easy his mind about being able to stay with his girlfriend.  I'm sure that if he doesn't want to loose her then he isn't going to.  I wish him all the best in what ever he chooses for him self, I'm sure that it will all turn out well for him.
