Here in Perth, Western Australia there is a growing number of PVR brands available. Trouble is there are lesser known brands and big name brands with a big variation in prices.

Can anyone suggest a 'reliable and good value' machine that I can purchase?

  1. Big problem.

The secret to Tivo and PVRs that people love is the program guide.

You want a PVR that comes with your cable or sat service.  Make sure it gives you a 2-week program guide and as much recording capacity as possible.

Leasing from your service company is prefered over buying because if you upgrade to HDTV - you need a new box.

In general - the best is "Tivo".
