My one day visit will take place on a Sunday in August during the Fringe. I want to make the most of our time there.

  1. you need at least 3 days to get a good impression of Edinburgh, but the above (lordreith) is a good list

  2. Holyrood House, St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh Castle, old Parliament Hall, Signet Library, Arthur's Fort. That takes care of the been there, done that...

Now for the fun along Royal Mile: Ensign Ewart, Lawnmarket (gets crowded); White Hart Inn, Grassmarket

The Hebrides, Market St., Bannermans, Niddry St.Acandthus, Waverly Bridge; Alba, Grassmarket; Waverly, St Marys St.,Bow Bar, West Bow, Victoria St.Castle Bar, Johnston Terrace, Valentines (now Royal McGregor),

High St. Arcade Bar, Cockburn St.,

    Slainte!

  3. Start at the Holyroodhouse at the foot of the Royal Mile. Walk up to the Castle. With the Royal Mile being the centre of the Fringe this will fill most of your day. Nip down into Princes Street Gardens for a break.
