Can someone suggest any books on microprocessor and/or video processor design?

I'm looking for books on microprocessor (such as Intel or AMD) & video processor (such as NVIDIA or Intel) ASIC design. I would like to understand the fundamentals of the circuit and, hopefully, the design process involved in creating a circuit of that magnitude.

  1. Grant McFarland's book "Microprocessor Design" book (ISBN 0071459510) is one of the most popular.

    You can find lots of whitepapers if you search around the Intel website. I put a link to a whitepaper about the Pentium 4 microarchitecture below. It's a very good read.

    You'll also find the "Computer Architecture" book by by John L. Hennessy and David A. Patterson to be valuable. (ISBN 0123704901)
