Can someone suggest me cool spots to visit in Munich (München)? A trip list .?

I will be in Munich on March 3rd and 4th. I would like to tour the city and just have 2 days on weekend to spend. I want to use the time as efficient as possible. If you were in Munich for two days, which places you would be visiting. I mainly want to see historical and authentic places. Can you make a list of those places, rather than offering links? (Name, few words explanation)

I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses on what to see, but, as an agent I'd like to suggest some ideas to maximize your touring time.  For my clients who have only a short stay in a particular destination I recommend a private car tour.   For Munich, I'd recommend Weichlein Tours (www.weichlein.de) or Interline Limo (http://www.interline-limo.com/eng/). These would obviously be higher priced than a conventional bus tour, but they could arrange for you to see all the important sights in Munich at your own pace.  You wouldn't be getting lost trying and wasting time trying to find a particular site and, they could put together an efficient route to maximize your time.  You would also spend more time sightseeing and less time waiting for 40 other people to get on and off of a bus ans wait for the bus to park, etc. If you take an 8 hour bus tour, figure at least 3-4 hours will be spent doing just this.   If your budget will not allow this, then the next best thing would be a Hop On Hop Off tour.  In my opinion, better than a conventional bus tour.  For details see http://www.grayline.com/Grayline/destina...

If you decide to do one of the above, then you could tour the city on the first day and spend the second day in the areas around Munich visiting the famous castles such as Neuschwanstein (the one you always see in the travel posters), Linderhof, Herrenchimsee (built by "Mad" King Ludwig), and Hohenschwangau and Nymphenburg (built by Ludwig's father).  

Again, you could do a private car tour to see all of them.  A bus tour would usually only take you to 2 or 3 of them. The castles are located in an area about 1 hour outside of Munich.

Personally, I think these are the best reason to visit this area as the castles provide fascinating architecture, artwork, history, and a bit of fantasy.

- Marienplatz with town hall

- Koenigsplatz with greek-like architecture and two museums

- Olympic park with the television tower for the best view over Munich

- Karlsplatz/Stachus

- Bavarian Museum near the English garden

- German museum on the Isarisland

- Castle Nymphenburg

- Residenz at Odeonsplatz

What we found to be the most helpful on our first trip to Munich was the Fodor's Gold Guide for Germany.  They have walking trips that you can take and include stops at churches and Museums.  This way you can visit the location and read the description of it, rather than just having a list given to you by a stranger.  

They usually overestimate the walking trips' time committments, so don't be afraid to plan 2 or 3 of them a day.  They really gave us a great tour of Munich and pointed out all kinds of things we never would have seen.  The added bonus is that they also list restaurants nearby and all kinds of little tips & tricks.  We don't travel without a Fodor's guide anymore.  

And for the best soups in Munich, Prinz Mishkin.  Mmmmm.
