  1. Why don't you just go to a local dojo ( school ) and learn man, it's way better to have a qualified instructor at a dojo teach you than some one typing in some words about technique that you're never going to understand in the first place.  Then giving out you e-mail like that wow.... I'm at a loss for words dude.  I feel bad for you kid, but you have to seek qualified teaching on the local level ( near your home ).  What about a dad or a uncle or a brother or something? ask them for the basics and that should at least help a little.  Bottom line ........ go to a school man!!  Any one who e-mails you won't even have a clue as to what they're talking about dude.  No self respecting sensei or instructor of any type whould e-mail about this if some one does they're full of sh*t.

  2. You cannot learn martial arts from a video, books, etc.  You have to train at a school.  Drive (or walk, bike, catch a ride, etc.) those miles to a martial arts academy.

  3. If you live too far away from a school to get there, then call them anyway.  Ask if they have or know an instructor who lives closer to you who may give lessons at the local YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, city recreation program, etc.  They may even arrange for a private lesson.

For example, my school does programs through our local YMCA, city recreation department, and a recreation department for a city in the next county.  We also have affiliated schools and instructors available for training all over the country.

  4. Ned - William is right - find a good local school and train there.  I know you live away from schools, but reading about how to fight just won't do it for you, I promise.  You need to practice.

Work out a way that you can get a ride - a lot of martial arts schools have after-school programs with transportation, or maybe you can talk to your parents about taking you to a class.  Maybe you can mow the yard once a week and they'll give you a ride ( especially good in winter!  No grass to mow!)

But you do need to train with a coach/instructor of some sort.  If you don't train with a person that knows what they are doing it will be worse when you end up having to defend yourself.  You'll just look like a dork who read about how to fight on the internet instead of a trained fighter.

    Good luck.

  5. BOOOOOO i refuse to endorse violence among the little people. more people will pick on you online for asking stupid questions.  let me ask you this, do they pick on you because of your horrible spelling?

  6. learning to fight isn't an over-night process, it takes years of training to be effective in all situations. you need to practice often and eventually you will have a second nature/natural reaction to "block and strike" or what ever is best for the situation. also being in shape to pull off skilled technique

some people 'bite' techniques from instruction videos, or clips from youtube, but you will never be great at it. you will need a competent instructor in a kung fu style, if you are only learning forms, change teachers.  make sure your applying what is taught.

its hard to find an authentic teacher tho. good luck and learn everything you can if you are serious about self defense.
