An inspiring biography that is getting great reviews is "Ibn al-Haytham: First Scientist" by Bradley Steffens. It tells the true story of a medieval Muslim scholar who overcame bouts of mental illness to develop the scientific method two hundred years before the Europeans learned of it—by reading his books. The author just received the Theodor S. Geisel Award for the best book published by a San Diego County author last year. I've just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Enthralling novel based on two women experiencing extreme hardships growing up in war-torn Afghanistan. Found it really inspiring as it shows how a friendship can endure even the harshest circumstances. Definitely worth a read!

i am the messenger by markus zusak

it's about a normal guy, ed kennedy, who accidentally stops a bank robbery. then, mysterious playing cards start coming in the mail with cryptic clues on them that ed must solve.

it's a really inspiring book about kindness and helping people. i loved it!

The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein

It's mostly pictures with minimal text but it's utterly brilliant, a circle with a piece missing goes in search of it's missing piece and makes all sort of discoveries along the way, eventually it finds it's missing piece but with it's missing piece travelling is easier but it can't stop and admire the scenery or chat to random strangers so it decides it didn't need it's missing piece, so it lets of the missing piece and goes on it's way to have more adventures.
