Can someone tell me a little bit about hair extensions?

I am thinking about getting them for my birthday but don't know anything about them...... How long do they last? Generally how much do they cost? Do you think they are worth it? Any info. you can give me would be great.

How long they last will depend on what method you use to put them in and how well you take care of them once they are in. There are several methods that can be used. Keep in mind when you are calling salons in your area that the less expensive they are the less time they will stay in your hair. You can generally expect them to last 2 -4 weeks for the lower price ranges and 8-12 weeks for the higher price ranges. Price also will depend on the quality of the hair being put in. There are several grades of hair from artificial (think plastic barbie hair) to super expensive high-grade human hair. The higher the quality the more natural it will look and the better chance you will be able to re-use the hair. Artificial hair cannot be curled or flat ironed, colored, permed etc... it is what it is. Human hair (depending on grade) can usually be colored or permed to match your hair. Human hair can be curled or flat ironed, so you can change your look if wanted.

I'd highly suggest calling around to salons in your area to get price range. I will charge anywhere from $600 to $2000 depending on exactly what it is I'm doing, how involved the installation is, what type of hair being used and the method I use.  Go to a salon that will give you a complete consultation and will explain in detail how to care for your new hair. My price includes a 2 week check-up and a product package to take care of the hair. (I'm only telling you this so you have an idea of what you can get for the price you will be paying in your area). You can also expect to spend anywhere from 2 to 10 hours getting them put in.

i've seen people looking really bad after hair extension. unless u are really into it, and can afford to repair any damage(if there is) after extension, i suggest u just get a perm or get it styled up.(even though they might be damaging too.) :]
