Can someone tell me about Fahrenheit 451? ?

Basically it's about a man living in a utopian America, in the future, who is a fireman, but instead of fighting fires, they start them in houses where there are books. The man loves his job and is completely infatuated by the way the kerosene is lit and burns the houses. I'm pretty sure I remember it saying something about the books on fire look like moths or something like that. Then the main character (the man), Guy Montag, meets a seventeen year old girl named Clarisse who makes him question whether or not he truly loves his job. Montag then reads a book, and the fire chief catches him in a sense and then all of this stuff happens.

It's actually a really, really good book with a lot of meaning behind it. And I've never been one for books like that.

ive seen the movie but havent read the book. basically its about a dystopian society where the government burns books to keep the population ignorant and controllable. the title of the book refers to the temperature at which books burn. citizens caught with books are either arrested or killed. the main character is a government agent who's job it is to hunt down book owners and torch their literature. he eventually begins to sympathize with the rebels who memorize books to preserve wisdom. this is a really general overview but hopefully it will help. you can learn the rest from http://www.cliffsnotes.com/WileyCDA/

more about controlling free speech. in this case the ruling elite burn books just like the n***s were known for doing. now it is control of public education, control of the web and the carefully controlled broadcast "news" media. ideas are dangerous to the ruling elite. vital that they keep the sheeple in the dark or, make that the mushrooms, feed them c**p and keep them in the dark. baa baaa baaaaa

It's been awhile but in the future books are illegal. The fire department is in change of burning books. 451 is the temperature that paper burns. In the end the hero joins a group that is memorizing books.
