Can someone tell me about Guanajuato, Mexico?

I might go there for a semester at the university for 4 months. Will I get bored? Are there things to do, places to go? nightlife? Is it safe?

it's WAY safe.  you are going to get bored.  it's so pretty and there are many things to look at...but after about 2 weeks i'd be ready to leave...and that's a maximum.  truthfully, i'm ready to leave in about 3 days whenever i go.  there is a mall in leon, that is about 30-45 minutes away.  but in guanajuato, guanajuato...no, there isn't much to do.  it's a vacation spot, a really good one...but you run out of things to do quickly.

It's a beautiful, old colonial town with a nice Plaza to hang out in the p.m.. They have great leather goods & decent shopping. Lots of good day trips too..

Will you get bored?

It is all up to you.

Guanajuato is indeed a rather small city but it is quite interesting. And there are several events throughout the year. The most famous being "Festival Cervantino".

You can also include some visits to places around the city, including neighboring states.

I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay if you are willing to see and try new things.

I live in Gto, you can pick up a girl =P or take salsa dancing classes (girls are hot over there), there are some bars, clubs, etc, for all kinds of people, old man? try la dama de las camelias, hip hop? try el guetto just below el cuba mia (cuban salsa great atmosphere at 4 pm and until 6 or 7 =P) want a chill out place? try bar fly or why not bar, wanna dance? try Guanajuato Grill or el Capitolio, and you'll get to know many guys from the program and here in Mexico so who knows maybe you can organize a road trip to Puerto Vallarta =P

Guanajuato is a UNESCO world heritage place. The city center is full of colonial buildings, including several places where Independence heroes planned the war of independence from Spain. National Geographic rated it one of the top places to visit anywhere in the world. Is full with tourists from around the world year-round. University is well renowned.
