I've never been to Myrtle Beach before! My husband and I are planning to go during Thanksgiving, but is it worth it during that time? Will Ripley's Aquarium and Believe It or Not be open? What about the strip? Is that during Summer only and why is there a North Myrtle Beach and a Myrtle Beach? Besides if the aquarium and strip are open for thanksgiving, where are they located anyway? I need answers PLEASE!

  1. Things slow down after October.  The "strip" runs for several miles 1 block off the beach through Myrtle. The aquarium is located at Broadway on the Beach(alot of shops ,rest'rnts etc) about 4 blocks in from the strip.  North Myrtle is a different city but really just and extention of Myrtle just a little more subdued.  It should be fairly quiet, good rates if that's what you want.

  2. We always go the week of Thanksgiving. We've spent every Thanksgiving in the Myrtle Beach area for thirty plus years!  Yes, it is worth it.  The theaters are doing Christmas shows, but you must get tickets in advance (like now).  The aquarium  and Ripley's are open.  Broadway at the beach is a really neat place to go. The aquarium and Ripley's are  located at Broadway.  There is also a Ripley's  on the strip South of Myrtle.  The shops on the strip aren't all open, but you won't miss much. The amusement parks are closed too.

During this time of year there aren't as many tourist and you shouldn't have any trouble finding a room, however, you may be surprised at how many people actually go to the beach for Thanksgiving..   Usually the weather is nice enough to go walking on the beach.

North Myrtle is the area north of Myrtle.  There is outlet shopping at the Tanger Mall, and many shops and restaurants at Barefoot Landing in Windy Hill.  There are many seafood restaurants in the area and even a strip called Restaurant Row.  Also in NMB there is a Cracker Barrell.  We order our Thanksgiving meal there and take it back to the condo.  They have a good deal.  On Saturday they have a wonderful breakfast buffet at House of Blues.

North Myrtle is made up of several beaches: Windy Hill, Ocean Drive, Cresent, and Cherry Grove.

We stay  in Windy Hill and have a three bedroom ocean front condo with an indoor pool.  (We are there the entire week and the rent for the week is less than  $500 --don't want to give an exact amount because you may not rent from the same company.)    You may prefer a motel room if only two of you are going.  You should be able to get a really nice place for a fraction of what you pay in the summer.  There are thousands of choices.

There is a new resort in Cherry Grove  on the pier called Prince.  It is nice, but doesn't have an indoor pool.

Hope you can make it.  It is a wonderful; time to go.
