  1. Russia are winning

  2. they're fighting. they're killing. over 2000 dead about now.. not looking good...

  3. i think it's like Ossetia's revolutionary war, trying to break free from georgia

  4. This might be more info than you need, but here's the viewpoint of the events looking torwards the future.

Ever since Kosovo declared independence, it's put Russia's status with it's post USSR states (sphere of influence) in a rather odd spot. Russia's been looking for a chance to redefine the region- this is it's redefining act.

The act of Moscow intervening isn't really what we should be looking at now (not do downplay the people killed in the conflict). We should be focusing on the reaction in the former Soviet states. That is the real audience for this. We should watch the reaction of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Nagorno-Karabakh and the Balts. How will Russia’s moves affect them psychologically?

So to put it bluntly, the conflict its self isn't incredibly important in the long run- it's what effect it has on Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Nagorno-Karabakh and the Balts. Cheers!

  5. Just facts: Russia did not initiate military action.  Georgia's forces has bombed and destroyed the region's capital and 1400 civilians in just the 1st day.  There can be no justification for that.  DO NOT forget this point. For the rest, see the videos below.

  6. A part of Georgia called South Ossetia tried to break away from Georgia.  Russia wanted to annex it, so they gave the people there passports and claimed they were Russian citizens, but in reality they were Georgian citizens.  Now Russia started provoking the Georgians by violating their airspace and launching missiles into Georgia and allowing the Ossetians to launch attacks into Georgia.  This forced Georgia to try to take back it's land, which gave the Russians an excuse to invade and try to take over all of Georgia.

  7. It's a regional conflict between Russia and its former Soviet state Georgia over disputed territory and it's threatening to escalate and spill over into neighbouring countries. The big worry is that the Georgian president is very pro-Western and wants to take Georgia into NATO, which the Russians would see as a threat. Also, there's a strategic oil pipeline involved. Thousands of people have already died or been injured or displaced, and it's starting to worry many governments around the world because it has the potential to escalate into a much wider war. At the time of writing it's still a developing situation, but it's looking very bad.

  8. Russia is seekingrevengee on Georgia..thousands are being killed..because of Georgia'spoliticall decisions made

  9. By now Georgian forces killed about 2 000 of Ossetians.

There are fights for the Southern Ossetia, Russian troops (that have the UN's peacekeepers mandate and must defend the side that were attacked) are pushing Georgian army outside SO.

There are long-lasting conflict there. Now Ossetia is officially a part of Georgia, but they don't want to be so. The want to be either independent, either a part of Russia (as North Ossetia is now). And when it possible the local population gained the Russian citizenship (90 % now are both citizens of Russia and Georgia/Ossetia).

That area isn't controlled by Georgia, it is controlled by locals + Russian peacekeepers.

The previous night Georgia attacked Ossetia, they took its capital Tshinvali and killed about 1400 (+ 600 after) of its people +10 Russian peacekeepers. Russia suggested Georgia to end the fire, the refused. Ater that Ossetia asked Russia for help. Couse the UN"s did nothing to make Georgia stop the fire, Russia moved their troops there. Russia as a peacekeeper has to support the side that was attacked.
