  1. Call 911.

The 911 system is designed to provide emergency assistance. If you feel that emergency assistance is needed, then call for it. It's not up to the 911 operator or the responding crews to decide. The are required by law to respond to any 911 call. Note that many firefighters are also EMTs so it may be a fire truck that gets there first. Rest assured that an ambulance is also on the way.

This includes police, fire and EMS. The 911 number is easy for anyone to memorize and the quickest way to get the assistance that is needed. It is far better to cancel a call than to not send help at all.

As for an expected death at home, call the police non emergency line. Remember that in some cases, the deceased person might have made prior arrangements with a funeral home. If so, contact the funeral home directly and inform them of the person's death. They should take care of removal of the body and transport it to the funeral home in preparation for burial. If a person dies at home of no known causes, the police and/or medical examiner are called in to determine the cause of death...by natural causes, homicide, suicide or whatever. The appropriate actions are taken from there. A non-emergency call can always be upgraded to emergency.

    EMT

    When in doubt, call 911.

  2. If someone is very sick and will not be able to ride in a vehicle to get to an emergency room call 911.  If someone is seriously injured or not breathing call 911.  If someone has passed away and it's obvious that they are dead and you find the body call 911.

  3. Very sick, but not a true medical emergency:  Call the person's physician first for instructions.

A true medical emergency (life threatening/serious injury): 911

Death at home: Call police, not 911 since it's not an emergency.

    Fire: 911

  4. When someone is very sick you call the doctor.. urgently. emergency.. and when someone is very injured you dial 911 as that could be a matter of life and death.. if the person had a stroke the very ill person or a heart attack. then also call 911.. if the person just is feeling unwell then call the doctor.. if the person can't breathe well or can't talk properly.. and feels bad.. call 911 he could have heart attack or a stroke or suffer from some kind of poisoning... so in those cases 911 and if someone already died.. then call the doctor.. and he will come and you can ask him what to do.. the relatives have to be informed .. the funeral home.. but the doctor knows who needs to be phoned .. so call the doctor first..  in the case where the person is dead already and died of natural causes unless you find a murdered person. you call the doctor.. if you found someone murdered or a suicide then 911

  5. I call 911 always. I did call the operator once to get the number for my local police station, this was before 911, and she was very very rude (when I said it was an emergency she said "Oh sure that's what they all say!") and deliberately gave me the wrong number to a station way downtown but they called the right one for me and the police were there within 5 minutes. A man broke into my apt and attacked me and tried to strangle me, I had the marks of his fingers around my neck for weeks.

  6. You call 911. And you talk to the operator. From there the operator will send the appropriate help.
