  1. Of course.  Since you start with dozens of teams, and only one has the potential to end undefeated, they can all be fully invested in the game, but all but one lose.  That is not the issue.

The issue with the last Olympics was a group of selfish ego-maniacs playing as individuals, and being thrashed by lesser skilled individuals who were far more adept at playing as a TEAM.  Something rarely demonstrated in the NBA - team play.  KB would be one "poster child" of this malody.

  2. There is no I in team

  3. the last usa team assembled was a very young team. having duncan and iverson as the only legitimate NBA veteran on that team, their success in the olympic tournament was unlikely because they were going up against teams that have practically been playing together for more than five years. another reason was that the young players that they had back then (dwade, melo, lebron) weren't exposed to the FIBA basketball tournament yet. yes, they were already talented back then in the NBA, but the situation was entirely different in the olympic tournament. rules were different, and the style of play was not the usual style of play that they were usually playing. also, these  young players that were chosen to play for team usa weren't really what they wanted to have. they originally asked for veteran players to play for the team, but because of the fact that these players declined the offer, they were forced to fill in young players in order for them to have a team to send in the 04 olympics. you can tell from their exhibition games back then that they'll be having trouble winning in the olympic tournament.
