Can someone tell me how dialation works?

Question

when preggo, how can the doc tell how dialted you are???? 10 cm dialated when you go into labor, about how big is that? can someone explain :o( lol

the doctor will check your cervix with his fingers . you will be 10cm when you a ready to push. so labor will be 1st you can be dilated some well before labor. fully dilated is about the size of a mans fist

Well, the doc puts their fingers..or fist in there to tell how dilated you are. It is kinda like when they check your cervix...same feeling. They spread their fingers apart and can tell how far you are. They will be able to fit their fist when you are at 10!! =)

get a ruler and look at the centimeters it is the same thing as being dialated. they use their fingers to tell and count the centimeters they check by feeling your cervix

First, it's "dilation"

It's your cervix opening.  10 is fully dilated, but you will be in labor long before that!
