  1. It is difficult to determine the age of a cockatoo, however young cockatoos will have a beak that is smooth and pale and their plumage will be paler, while an older bird's beak will be darker and have striations and their plumage will have a fuller coloration.   I have a 53 year old male and a 15 year old  female cockatoo and I can't tell the difference in their ages.  Sorry!

  2. Unless the bird has a leg band with the information on it, you can't know for sure.

Some times the vet can guess pretty close by his/her avain experience and/or condition of the bird.

  3. Cut them in half and count the rings.

  4. I've always heard that you can tell by there beaks and there claws, let me know when you find out tho, last year we had a cockatoo fly into our yard and we decided to keep him. He's definetly young we know that, you can tell because his beak is still smooth (as stupid as that sounds)

  5. by the receding/changing stripes on is head/plume. at least thats what it is for a parakeet. idk if its the same for a cockatoo. : D
