Can someone tell me how to own and operate one of this?

i am only interested in 50cc.

1. is this a M1 or M2 license?

2. can i just get a permit and operate it instead of a license?

please answer ONLY if you own one and gone through the process, thanks. I am in California.

  1. I don't own one, but I used to have a motorscooter years ago.  I actually looked it up because I was curious.

    You need an M2 license.  You don't need a license for a moped or a 'scooter' (meaning one on which you stand, which doesn't go faster than 20 mph).  And the bike has to be registered.

    You can get a learner's permit.  The website is not clear whether or not you can renew the learner's permit indefinitely or how many times.  But on a bike like this it should be very easy to get your M2 license.

    You might find after riding this thing for a while that you'd like a little more power so you can go on arterial streets and even the freeway, and you'll be glad then that you already have your M2.  The cool thing is that it is very easy to do the riding test on this bike because it is so light and manuverable, and if you get a bigger bike you don't have to take the test again.


  2. In canada we don't need a lisncr for them.But in california i think it's a m2 lincsee.
