I am trying to find a list of hospitals in tulsa oklahoma in the year 1968/1969. I can't seem to figure out the wording needed to narrow my search to a list to look at.

I'm not real experienced with researching things on the internet, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. My suggestion is to call the Reference desk at the Tulsa Public Library and ask them to pull the phone directory for that year and give you the names and addresses of the hospitals.

The problem with using the internet is that hospitals have gone through massive transformation with mergers, sales, divestures and reincorporation over the last 30 years. Even if it's the same building that it was in 1968, it may have changed its name 4 times. So go back to the 1968 directory and you'll get the correct wording and spelling of the names. Then you can track their progression to today using the Oklahoma Dept of Public Health and http://www.smartpages.com to find the current contact information.

  2. Ok, you may not have long distance if you are out of Tulsa but if you do, contact the Tulsa Chamber of Commerence. They can point you in the right direction. If they can't help you then ask a library.

  3. both the above answers will get you some info in general.  Since you posted in genealogy, are you looking for the name of where someone was born in those years?? If yes, the hospital name will be on the birth certificate for that person.  Any medical records would not be accessible for that era.  If you are trying to replace a lost birth certificate.. it will NOT BE AT the hospital, it is stored at the state vital records office.

  4. Can you try looking for the hospitals in Tulsa. There cant be that many and then seeing if they were open those specific years.
