Can someone tell me if Westwood CA is a safe place to find a hotel?

I am thinking about booking a room at the Palomar Hotel in Westwood and I need to know as much information as possible about that area...

yes, it's fine. Not the most exciting area of L.A., but reasonably close both to the beach and Hollywood, and yes it's safe.

(you will need a car, naturally. but you would need that pretty much everywhere in L.A anyway)

I used to like in Westwood, it is a great place to go. It is perfectly safe and has plenty of restaurants and movie theaters. In the area there are three Mann theaters (all famous), and the AMC Avco. If you are thinking about where to eat here are a few restaurants that I still visit today, Chilis (small but great food), CPK (California Pizza Kitchen), Athena (a nice Greek place across the street from Borders books), and Thai Chy, a nice asian place ranked one of the best asian food restaurants in Westwood. Remember that Westwood has great nightlife and has over six night clubs, once is located right next to the campus of UCLA. If you are scared of crime just stay off the UCLA campus, but I assure you that it is a fine campus.
