  1. Some states even license EMS pilots as well. And they usually require a lot of hours too.

  2. Nope they wont.

Sorry, but you'll need some commercial time getting paid to fly before EMS companies will hire you.  There are plenty of jobs out there, its just that EMS jobs are relatively desirable when compared to many others, so the companies that do this type of flying can afford to be very selective about who they hire.

  3. Been flying EMS helicopters for 24 years.  Some places will hire you with as little as 1500 hours--you will be compensated accordingly.  3000, and in some cases 4000 or more hours is the norm.  Most candidates have more time than that.  Additionally, you usually are required to have a helicopter instrument rating, with logged night, mountain, etc.  Most operators look for a variety of experience, not just Robbie time at a flight school.  To my knowledge, no one requires medical training or certification, or state licensing to fly EMS.  If you happen to work for a public service agency, their requirements may be different.  The applicant pool for pilots seems to be getting thinner and less experienced and the requirements dictated by the FAA seem to be getting higher....

  4. All will have minimum hour requirements based on their insurance.  Typical requirements are 1500-2000 hours and 3000 hours in mountainous areas/states. Gulf of Mexico oil rig work requires slightly less ~ 1000 hours.  As I mentioned, these requirements are mandated by their insurance carriers.

  5. You have to be a trained EMT as well
