i am a virgo and my sign is the dog. can someone tell me if someones zodiac and their animal are connected. if so does the animal change the personality traits of the virgo cap tauraus. (confusing for me cause their both zodiacs so yeah...

Beyond that I am not aware of a Dog anywhere in the western astrology (Libra, Leo, Virgo etc.,)....

Chinese versus Western astrology. The connection would be that, people born in the same year as you have certain characteristics. It doesn't offset anything, it just adds something.
