  1. 1. if your wireless network is not secure, it could be another computer - like a neighbor's laptop - causing the traffic. if so, contact your router manufacturer for assistance in securing your wireless network.

    2. if you have P2P applications running all the time, you may be hitting the maximum number of connections on your router/gateway and causing it to freeze. the fix would be to limit the maximum number of (global) connections in your P2P application settings.

how/where are you getting that error count? and by gateway, you mean a modem/wireless router combination? you purchased this device or do you lease/rent it from your ISP?

  2. I cannot even imagine what the tech may have been trying to say, all I can figure is he was just lying.  The error packets sound extremely high.  Try some of the network speed tests to see how your throughput is, and then call support back.  If you get a tech that sounds like an idiot, keep calling back until you get someone who sounds like they know what they are talking about.

  3. They are feeding you c**p. How can a computer do ANYTHING when it's OFF!!

  4. if your wireless pc is off it cannot be using any bandwidth, this sounds like a lot of bull to me, any pc while switched of cannot use up any bandwidth, check that no one else is using your wireless, have you got wireless security enabled on the router? 998 million errors, ouch
