I am soppose to have an IUI this cycle, however I am developing way too many eggs, so it might be converted to an IVF. I am meeting with my dr today, so I won't know about it till after 2pm.

  1. So........what is it exactly that you want to know about IVF?  I have been through 2 cycles -- both successful -- so there's a ton of information I could give you but I have no idea what kind of information you're looking for.........

  2. I had IVF because my tubes are bad. I actually had the retrieval on 7/26 and they do put you out, but its mild and it wears off quickly after the procedure and it doesn't make you feel sick like general anesthesia does. Then I went in on 7/29 and had the transfer, all they gave me that day was valium to relax me....I am now waiting to take the blood test Monday, 8/11.

    Good luck!

  3. Oh wow! You're making lots of eggies! I am sure with 10 eggs you will do an egg retrieval! What will happen is that you will continue with your meds for another day or so then do a trigger shot (Ovidrel), and then two days later go for the retrieval. You will be sedated and it will be over in less than 1/2 hour. They call it "twilight sedation" where you will be aware and can answer questions but will not remember a thing! I've done it 3 times. After the retrieval they will mix your eggs with you partners swimmers and hope that you get several that fertilize. Your transfer day will depend on how those embryos do. If you have several that fertilized, you will probably do a 5 day transfer. If you have a few fertilize, they will probably to a 3 day transfer. Every clinic is different but most will wait until day 5 if you have more than 6 good quality embryos and transfer on day 3 if you have less than that. Your RE will help you decide the best number for you to transfer. I'm wishing you the best of luck! Feel free to email me if you need to chat!

  4. its usually 2 -3 days, I had mine out on the friday and in on the monday.  Good Luck! X

  5. For IVF, they would do the egg retrieval probably over this weekend (depending on how fast the follicles are growing) or early next week, they would mix your eggs with your partner's sperm in a dish and let them fertilize, and then either 3 or 5 days later (depending on the doctor's recommendation) they would transfer the some embryos (# also depends on docs's recommendation) into your uterus and hope for implantation.  The retrieval does not hurt b/c you are asleep, and wake up right after they are finished.  The process doesn't take too long.  There is some bloating discomfort after the retrieval, but I'm sure you are already starting to feel uncomfortable now with so many follicles maturing.  You are awake for the embryo transfer, but that's about like an IUI.  Then 2 weeks after the egg retrieval they do a blood test to see if it worked.

If you work, you'll definitely need to take the day of the retrieval off and you might need to take a couple days off work between the day of retrieval to the embryo transfer for discomfort.  And there will be a lot to do between now and then - paperwork, decisions to make, labs/tests, doctor visits, figure out finances....so it can be stressful since it's happening so quickly.  But obviously it will be worth it if it works :)

    Good luck!
