Can someone tell me the climate of racial relations in Australia, emmat maybe?

just curious...monorities here..all minorites fight for every inch of ground we have...and then we have to fight like h**l to keep it.

i am a white woman...but it is the same fight across the board for all minorities...for you?

A few  members of some nationalities have had problems but you can count the nationalities and the incidents on your fingers.  One group of refugees from Africa has had problems adjusting to "western ways", e.g. refusing to take direction from a police woman.  

I'm sure some people worry about immigration from India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia or Africa but I don't and I'd say most of the people here don't either.  

Generally Australians are not paranoid about race.  Look on Wikipedia for a description of an American city - it will often give you the "racial" statistics - 82% white, 9% Afro-American, 5% native American, 4% other.  I suppose there might be racial statistics in Wikipedia for some Australian places but I have never seen it.  We don't care enough to publicise it though I'm sure the census data has it somewhere.

Australia is a very multicultural society.  Part of the Australian ethos is to give everyone a fair go and to be extremely tolerant.  Generally everyone gets along very harmoniously.  I think the biggest problem of recent years has been  the lack of tolerance by some recent immigrant's cultures for our very liberated lifestyle.  One muslim cleric has been in a lot of trouble lately for saying things like Australian women deserved to be raped because our women weren't covered.

"Dogs will eat exposed meat, you can't blame the dogs" in defence of a group of muslim men who were guilty of pack rapes.  These kinds of attitudes do not go down well with the Australian public.

Generally I think Australia is a good example of integration and a great role model for multiculturism at its best.
