I've gotten 2 job offers; one in Pontefract and one in Oxford. I need to move and would like an idea of the cost of living and also the advantages and disadvantages of each. Which would be better for housing, gas & utilities, nightlife, making new friends, shopping, vibrancy and ease of travel? Some websites on any of those titles would be great thankx!

I hope

  1. It depends what you want.

Pontefract is small and quiet, but cheaper than Oxford. On the plus side... liquorice!

Oxford is a large city, with some beautiful architecture. It has a lot of tourism as well as very wealthy residents, so the prices are quite high (though not quite as high as London). It's also quite close to London, so not too much of a commute if you fancied a trip there occasionally.

Pontefract isn't really near anything, apart from countryside. It's a very beautiful part of the country, but personally, that's not enough to maintain my interest

Off the point, but this is my 1,000th answer :-)

  2. Beyond a shadow of a doubt Oxford is your best bet whether it will be more expensive or not...Ponty is a total dump...truly

  3. Well Oxford is pretty much better in every aspect, but it will cost you twice as much
