Currently, I am planning to move to Melbourne and settle down there. however, I want to know the estimate cost of relocation in Melbourne. I may need to buy a house, also i don't know if it is expensive to live in Melbourne. eg. foods, transportation, etc. are they more expensive than UK? please help! Would be much appreciated if you could explain it more detailed.

  1. the average rent here if your share housing is about 115-180/ week. Bond isnt bad, i only paid $340 for mine.

For a weekly train ticket (can be used on all transport) in zone one its $28. I dont know about food because it depends on the person but i spend about $60-100 a week.

I lived in London for a year and im always having this argument with people, i think London is MUCH cheaper than here, its just the exchange rate that makes it expensive for us. For example, for a can of coke its like 80 or 90p or something here you'd be paying about $1.20.

Also, average houses are about $500,000- $700,000. It depends on which suburb you want to go to.

    Hope this helps!! :)

  2. You could get into share accomodation for around $70 for about half an hour out of the city (minimum) or around $100-150 a week minimum with a room in the city. If you are a student/concession you can get a monthly public transport ticket that covers trains trams and buses in all zones for about $70 a month or just one trip is between $1.50-$5 how long you want to travel. Food you could budget about $80 a week if you're mostly cooking yourself, but eating out a meals are in the range of $7-25...(all prices in Australian dollars) you can use xe.com to convert if you want..
