Can someone tell me the origin and meaning of this name "Johnsson"?

I would like to know the origins of this surname. All I know is that it comes from Switzerland. Can anyone help me with any further info. Also how common is this name in Switzerland?

  1. Johnsson is actually of Scandinavian origin, and means exactly what it says - son of John.


  2. Pretty sure you're thinking of Sweden, sorry.

    It would mean son of John.

    But apparently there are 11 of them in Switzerland.

  3. I'm swiss. Johnsson is not a common name around here. As the previous answer ers said, You might want to extend your search to other northern european countries. Good luck with that!
