My grandmother passed away recently. She had purchased a ira stock in 1943. It has not been cashed out yet and she has left it to me and my brothers. We just would like to know what it would be worth today or how to find out what its worth is.

  1. What is a 1943 ira stock?

  2. IRA accounts did not exist in 1943.

I have never heard of "IRA" stock. There is no stock listing for "IRA."

    What is an IRA Account?

"An Individual Retirement Arrangement (or IRA) is a retirement plan account that provides some tax advantages for retirement savings in the United States."

What is IN the IRA account is whole different question. Take the account statements to a bank or broker for help.

  3. Is "IRA" the ticker symbol?  If so, what is the actual name of the company?

  4. What is the name of the stock

    Where is it being held

Need a copy of the brokerage statement or the physical certificate

It can not be a stock that was purchased in an IRA since such accounts were not available until 1974

  5. You bought stock in the Irish Republican Army! I didn't know they were on the common market. (I know what an IRA really is - jk)

  6. I would say easily over a billion dollars, no kidding.

Seriously, IRAs were not even created by our effed up government until 1974. You might want to check with your sources on this one.

  7. IRA stock doesn't make sense.  IRA's are a type of account where you put money to then invest into stocks or bonds or mutual funds or whatever.  This must be an account that was left to you.  I would recommend calling the company that holds the IRA to start the process of transferring the account into your names.
