Can someone tell me what a "heroic vision" is?

I'm working on a study guide over the book Grendel by John Gardner, and one question asks what the "heroic vision" of the story is. What is a heroic vision?!?

I would think it is how the hero sees the tale unfolding.  How the hero plans to do the things that need to be done.
