Can someone tell me what the softest shag rugs are made out of?

Wool is the softest carpet fiber, however it is very expensive.  A wool shag (true shag) will cost $12-16 sq. ft installed.  Nylon fibers are much less expensive, but not all nylon fibers are the same.  Most nylon filaments (the tiny threads the yarn is made from) are about the width of a hair.  Premium nylon filaments are half that width, and much softer.  Premium nylon fibers are marketed under brands such as Tactese, SoftTouch, Evertouch, and others.  Shag carpets, made from premium Nylon fibers sell for $5-7 sq. ft. installed
