  1. Hi.  On top of the information provided  by other correspondents, about the Census for England and Wales which began fully in 1801 and became published with names in 1841, there could not be a full census in 1941 because of the Second World War.  There is  100 years close of access in England and Wales which means that the most recent one available is for 1901.  In Scotland however there is only an 80 years close so the 1921 Census for Scotland should now be available.

The next one therefore that we will complete will be in 2011.

  2. UK answer.

Here in the UK the census is taken in the first year of the decade. The first census taken was actually in 1801. The 1911 census is due to be made public on January 2nd 2012, it's actually 100 years counted from 31st December 1911. Here is a complete list of dates of the UK census.

1801 10th March  Little use for Genealogy

1811 27th May  Little use for Genealogy

1821 28th May  Little use for Genealogy

1831 30th May  Little use for Genealogy

    Hope this helps.

  3. every 10 years, the next is due in 2011

  4. started 1841

    last one was 1901

  5. All census years end with 1, lol.

  6. Weird, what's with all the thumbs-down, most of these were correct answers? Anyway, I just wanted to add that although the 1911 census won't be completely released until 2012, some information will be released sooner. At the moment, you can request a search of a specific address, but not a surname. To make a request, you need:

    1. House name or number / Building name / Vessel name

    2. County

    3. Civil Parish

See http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911c... for more information regarding the 1911 census.

It will be great when we are finally able to view the 1911 census, as apparently most entries are actually in the persons own handwriting, rather than the census taker's writing.

  7. 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901.  The 1911 one will be available sometime next year I understand.

  8. UK censuses are taken every 10 years, in years ending in 1. 1841, 1851, 1861, etc. They are released for public examination only after  100 years. So the most recent census that you have access to is the 1901. The 1911 census will be released in 2011.
