Can someone tell me where I can find a good aviation school for pilot training in Sacramento ?

I am really interested in going into aviation and maybe becoming a pilot. the last time I was on a plane I was in the cockpit talking to a pilot he said I could go to mather field and then the rotc program at sac state and he said after that he joined the air force. I dont know where to begin and where I can go for real flight lessons by a licensed pilot. cause it might be a defenant career. I am still in high school so it really hard right now and my parents would not be happy with me joining the air force because of the war in iraq

Any FBO (Fixed Base Operator) at the general aviation side of the Sacramento Airport will have flight instructors and programs for you Private Pilots training. You cannot fly in this area with a Recreational Pilots Lic. as they do not allow you to fly through controlled airspace and all your area is controlled.  to prepare get the Student Pilots Handbook at any bookstore and start getting familiar with the requirements and regulations for flying.  You will also need to find a local Fight Surgeon in your area this is a Doctor who can give fight physicals.  you will need a third class medical to fly, the medical certificate is your student pilots lic. The FBO will have a list of local Doctors for you to use.  You can train down south in the Galt area, there is a nice little airport there, flight training just north of Lodi, and the main thing to be careful of is to watch for sky divers on the weekend. I have flown in there and it is quite nice. No tower to bug you even. Good Luck.

Usually the students start off here and then some go on to get their private pilots license.  Its a bit cheaper to start with your sport pilot license.  

Atkins Air is in Lincoln and they provide instruction for private pilots.  That is where most of our students go if they decide to progress with their flight instruction.

Cross over Donner pass to Reno. Northern Nevada Aviation at Reno International is an excellent flight school.  The owner hangars all his aircraft.  Every aircraft is equipped with GARMIN 1000 Nav system.  Best thing is that he is a pay as you go school.  Just a fine school more interested in teaching you to fly vice soaking you for cash.
