I mean every presidential election year they have picked the loser consistently. They have Obama winning the swing states, I am from one of those swing states, and no one has called me.

  1. Your on the Do Not Poll list....-p

  2. I'm from Florida.  They say FL is 48-42 Obama.  That's a crock !  McCain should win FL easily from what I have seen and those I have talked to.

  3. What polls?

Every presidential election year? Going back HOW far? Since Yahoo hasn't been in existence all that long,  you can't be talking about that many elections.

We haven't had real elections here since the late '90s. Gore won the popular vote in the US -- remember? Bush won only because the Republicans running Florida's election removed Democrats from the voter registration lists, preventing them from voting.

In '04, the computers programmed to vote for Bush did so, again, stealing the election.

Polling doesn't work by calling every single member of the population, but by calling a SAMPLE (and surprisingly small samples can accurately predict the views of a population).

If you wanted to understand how polling actually works, places like Gallup Poll's website have some nice, clear explanations.

  4. Do you have a link to the polls you're talking about?

I worked for a University that did political polling. A good sample size for a poll is around 1,000 people which, you probably know, is MUCH smaller than the population of any state but still large enough to be statistically significant. It's a rarity to get called for such a poll.

They haven't picked the loser consistently -- it's a toss-up. Predicting an election this early doesn't work. Things change in five months, the opinion of the general public swings.
