Can someone tell me why Liverpool FC is the greatest Club in the world?

Liverpool aren't the greatest club in the world.  There is no club that is.  That being said they are a great club with an illustrious history.  18 league titles (still more than Man Utd), 5 European Cups/Champions League, 7 FA Cups.  They're one of the founding members of the Premiership and the old G14.  They've made their way to the Champions League semi finals in three of the past four years and progressed to the final twice and won it once.  They also have massive worldwide support.

While no club is the undisputed greatest club in the world, Liverpool are one of the greats.

They placed 4th in 07/08, they placed 3rd in 06/07, they placed 3rd in 05/06, they placed 5th in 04/05, they placed 4th in 03/04, 5th in 02/03, 2nd in 01/02. Seven seasons have come and gone and no 1st place. Is that how we are to define the greatest club in the world. They are consistent and strong, I'll give you that, but they are not the best.
