  1. Bulldogs can't give birth naturally so they have to have a Caesarean section, which I'm guessing is quite expensive, that's probably part of the reason.

  2. because bull dogs are bigg and strong and som people just use them for fighting or pertection

  3. because michael phelps has one and everyone wants to be like him, so they're buying more and the price is higher... i just made that up, they are really for protection and stuff.

  4. If you are referring to and English bulldog

It is because of how rare live puppies are, their love survival rate and all of the health issues and tests that need to be tested on him.

Because of the shape of these dogs the females often have complications during birth resulting in the death of puppies or even the mother. The puppies often are born with breathing issues because of the snout shape on the breed and have to be put to sleep before they are a few hours old. If the puppies and mother make it through all that, there is still a good chance and a couple more will die before they are ready to be sold. It is just the anatomy of the breed.

In most cases bulldogs have to be artificially inseminated to become pregnant. In order to limit issues and complication during birth, c-sections are often required as well.

Since puppies, healthy puppies, are so rare, good breeders feel that it is okay to charge more for the breed to make up for deaths and injuries from the breeding experience. It's all about business.

The higher prices for these dogs also go towards all of the vet appointments that these puppies constantly need to go to, in order to assure they are healthy enough for sale.

  5. Bulldogs are 1 of the top of pure breeds.

  6. There are a lot of factors. Dogs will cost a different amount from any given breeder - BYBs may only charge a few hundred dollars, while pups from a reputable breeder may cost over a thousand dollars.

Also, there are a lot of birth risks with bulldogs. If you're looking at a pup from a reputable breeder, they may have to charge more to cover C-section costs (birthing problems are common in bulldogs; C-sections are often required.)

  7. Because bulldogs have huge heads they usually need to be delivered by c-section. C-sections aren't cheap.

  8. I only read a couple answers and the c section part is right, they have small liters, and they have a lot of health problems. Atleast that has been my experience working with a vet.

  9. Expensive birthing issues...usually have to be delivered via c section due to their big heads.

  10. I'm guessing they are highly sought for.

  11. Because it costs a lot to have a dog bred by artificial insemination and the c-section to deliver the pups is not cheap either.

Most bull dogs are conceived and delivered like this.

  12. Maybe it's because they don't want to ruin the breed by making it too available. Once a breed becomes popular, it becomes ruined by inbreeding, overbreeding, and bad breeding in general. If I'm right and bulldog-lovers want to protect them, good for them!

If you really want a bulldog, you should pay what they ask. You're going to pay a lot of money to keep him well cared-for, anyway.
