Princess Louise-Hippolyte (1687-1731) the only woman who reigned as the Sovereign Princess of Monaco has the name Hippolyte in her name. Was that her last name? or her full name like someone would be called Jamie-Lynn or Marianne-Marie?

  1. It's a double Christian name, like Marie-Claire.

She didn't have a surname, her family were just "of Monaco".

  2. Louise-Hippolyte is her full first name, like "Marie-Christine", etc.  Her surname would be Grimaldi, which is the ruling family of Monaco.  They've ruled Monaco for about 700 years.

  3. The Grimaldis have ruled Monaco ever since it became a principality. http://www.visitmonaco.com/index.cfm?fus...

Anne Edward's The Grimaldis of Monaco is a good source.
