  1. The names might be different in his British and Irish passports, but the passport numbers will be linked to together.

I know of someone who attempted to do the same thing after overstaying their visa and they were questioned and sent back home to Ireland once they have landed in Australia and were band from entering Australia for awhile.

Your best bet is to ring the department of Australian immigration and talk to them about which is the right path for your friend to take to be able to stay in Australia.

    Their number is 131881.

  2. His name will be flagged on his British passport as a possible risk and someone entering Australia with the same or similar name will be detained for further questioning. It happens more than you think, holding dual-citizenship does not give anyone any extra privileges, it is not a second chance.

  3. It's his company's liability to ensure that he gets the proper work visa if they want to sponsor him.  It's your friend's responsibility to make sure that his company is putting through all the appropriate paperwork to keep him in the country legally. Trying to bypass the immigration system dishonestly is not the way to go about things - and he well get caught if it's discovered he using a false name, or has changed his name and hasn't declared it. Irish passports or otherwise have nothing to do with it. Your friend should simply try and do the right thing by making sure his company is following through on their promise to sponsor him - rather than figuring out how to trip up the Australian Immigration system.
